Wellbeing Mindfulness

 In MF TALKS

Over the past few weeks, I had the privilege of leading three Wellbeing Mindfulness sessions for the dedicated staff at the University of Gibraltar. These sessions weren’t just workshops—they were a reflection of a conscious and compassionate choice by the University’s Human Resources department to invest in the mental and emotional wellbeing of their team.

In a world where the pace of work rarely slows down, and professional demands continue to grow, it’s both rare and refreshing to see an institution prioritizing mental clarity, emotional resilience, and overall workplace wellness. The HR department’s initiative to integrate mindfulness into the professional development and care of their staff signals a forward-thinking and deeply human approach to leadership.

Each session focused on mindfulness practices—from breathwork and body scans to mindful listening and speaking, and gratitude practice—designed not only to help individuals manage stress but to foster a more connected, thoughtful, and balanced workplace culture. The staff’s engagement, openness, and feedback were incredibly inspiring, and some shared how even small moments of mindfulness were already shifting their workday experience.

It’s heartening to witness an academic institution recognize that the wellbeing of its people is foundational to its success. I applaud the University of Gibraltar for not just talking about wellness—but actively weaving it into the fabric of their organizational culture.

These sessions may have lasted only a few hours, but the seeds planted can grow into powerful daily practices that support both personal fulfillment and professional sustainability.
