MBSR COURSES
Qualified to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programs by Brown University School of Professional Studies I am now prepared and willing to conduct 8-week MBSR courses 1:1 or cohorts. Format of workshops can be adapted to the needs of the workplace, as well as directed to educators or parents.
It is my true honour to have been taught at the birthplace of the landmark Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979.
Learn about the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Stress Reduction Clinic (1979). Some benefits of MBSR scientifically proven by the Stress Reduction Clinic – UMass Medical Center are:
- Living life with greater serenity, energy, enthusiasm and understanding.
- Effectively manage stressful situations and learn to respond rather than react.
- Reduce levels of pain.
- Improve concentration and the ability to recover from difficult situations more quickly.
- Cultivate the ability to actively participate in your self-care.
- Find balance, tranquillity and peace of mind.
Structure MBSR courses as follows:
In the Orientation session we will get familiar with the practice of Mindfulness. Accepted by conventional medicine, the practice of Mindfulness is a secular, scientific and evidence-based practice that can have a positive impact on your quality of life.
In Week One session we will learn about the theory and evidence of mind-body medicine and how to apply it in our lives. We will have an experiential introduction to mindful eating, mindful breathing and body scan, with special emphasis on being fully engaged in the present moment.
In Week Two session we will be examining our perceptions, assumptions and ways of seeing the world. Learning how to use the body scan practice to cultivate a greater awareness of our reactions to stressful situations; and changing the way we perceive and respond to difficulties and challenges which will impact on the short and long term effects of stress on the body and mind.
In Week Three session we will be practicing mindful movement, sitting meditation and walking meditation. Discovering the power of being in the present moment, and investigating how our experiences can create reactions of pleasure or discomfort in the mind and body.
In Week Four session we will practice mindfulness by cultivating curiosity and openness, and observe how our ability to pay attention becomes more flexible. We will focus on developing our ability to concentrate and systematically expand our field of awareness. We will learn about the physiological and psychological basis of stress reactivity, and some Mindfulness strategies for responding positively and proactively to stressful situations.
In Week Five session we will pay attention to repetitive and unhealthy patterns that lead us to places where we may feel stuck and that we can disarm through Mindfulness. We will learn to apply Mindfulness the moment we experience physical sensations, intense emotions or pain, with special attention to exploring the impact that responding reactively can have on health and illness.
In Week Six session we will focus Mindfulness practices on transformative coping strategies to expand our inner resources and improve our ability to recuperate balance after stressful situations. We will delve into the fundamentals of interpersonal Mindfulness: applying awareness and presence in moments when communication becomes difficult or emotionally charged. We will learn a variety of styles for more effective and creative interpersonal communication.
In the 7.5 hour guided One-day retreat we will firmly and effectively establish the use of MBSR skills in multiple life situations, training participants to continue with these methods after the completion of the program.
In Week Seven session we will explore ways to integrate Mindfulness more fully and personally by bringing a broader sense of awareness and presence to each moment of our lives, and by using Mindfulness without bias in self-reflection and decision-making processes. We will learn to maintain the discipline and flexibility of daily practice as circumstances change throughout life.
In Week Eight session we will thoroughly review the learnings of the course, emphasising continuity over the coming months and years. We will provide available resources to continue Mindfulness in new directions as life and practice evolve; and we will present existing support systems to help participants continue to integrate, learn and grow.
