MAYOR’S AWARDS 2026

Today I just wanted to share this very special event that took place last Wednesday 25th March 2026 when I was presented the Mayor’s Award 2026 by the Mayor of Gibraltar Mr Nicholas Guerrero.

It might sound a bit of a cliché but I have to say that volunteering for Childline has given me far more than I could possibly have given Childline.

Yes, I have devoted some of my time to Listen, to undergo specific training, to help organise events and design projects, to take part in fundraising activities, or to contribute to the ‘Resilient Minds’ programme amongst others.

But I have always done it all with a smile in my face and the thought in my mind that I might be able to reach out to that child or young person in need. We never know if they can be at that school we are visiting today or outside that supermarket where we are raising funds or even
near that bench where we sit for a coffee break. And when I look around I always hope that that child or young person who might be needing help gathers the strength to approach one of us and say ‘I need to talk to a trusted adult’ or call when they get home.

Childline means Safeguarding our most vulnerable and it is a true honour to become that ‘trusted adult’ that a child might need one day.
